About Dr. Ashka Desai

Dr. Ashka Desai, an accomplished Kathak exponent and he visionary founder of Udbhava Tarangini Art Foundation, established a decade ago to promote the rich heritage of Kathak and the art of choreography. With her unwavering passion for classical dance, she has become a driving force in preserving and advancing this ancient Indian art form.

Initially a highly accomplished physiotherapist with over ten years of professional success, Dr. Ashka chose to embrace her lifelong passion for Kathak. This pivotal decision led her to pursue a B.A. in Dance and Choreography at the prestigious Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography, under the mentorship of the legendary Dr. Maya Rao, whose guidance served as the foundation of her artistic journey and inspired the creation of her institute.

Dr Ashka refined her artistry through the Kathak Alankar at Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, guided by the acclaimed Vidushi Bharathi Vittal. She went on to earn the first rank in her M.A. (Kathak) from Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth under the distinguished mentorship of Maneesha Ratnakar Joshi. Furthering her scholarly depth, she completed a specialised diploma focused on rare and ancient Kathak elements, studying with Padma Shri Mahamahopadhyay Dr Puru Dadheech and Dr Vibha Dadheech.

Recognized as a certified Doordarshan artist, Dr. Ashka’s dedication to Kathak transcends performance. Through her institute, she has nurtured countless aspiring dancers, fostering a deep appreciation for the art while contributing to its evolution. Her commitment and expertise have earned her a prominent place in the classical dance community, making her a beacon of inspiration for future generations.
